Wichita State dean searches update

Here’s a look at the status of each college:

  • College of Health Professions:
    • Sandra C. Garmon Bibb has been named the new dean of the College of Health Professions at Wichita State University, effective Monday, Aug. 11, according to Tony Vizzini, vice president for Academic Affairs. For the complete story, go to: http://www.wichita.edu/thisis/wsunews/cnews/?cnid=13943
  • College of Engineering:
  • W. Frank Barton School of Business:
    • James Jordan-Wagner has been named interim dean effective Tuesday, Sept. 2, according to Provost and Senior Vice President Tony Vizzini.
    • An interim dean will start September 1, 2014 from a selected outside source. Tony Vizzini will make the recommendation.
    • Two more candidates will interview on June 16 and June 23. Candidates include Cindy Claycomb, interim dean, Barton School of Business and Paul Sears, dean for the College of Business at the University of Findlay.
    • Applicants have been narrowed down to three candidates. On campus interviews begin the first week of May and will wrap up on May 20, 2014.
    • Applicants have been narrowed down to 6 - 8 potential candidates. Interviews will begin in March with a July 1, 2014 start date goal.
    • Cindy Claycomb, professor of marketing and the Neff Family Fellow in Business, was named interim dean in early May. Douglas Hensler announced in April that he is leaving to become provost at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. A search committee began its work this fall with a goal of having a new dean in place by summer 2014.

  • College of Education:
    • Applicants have been narrowed down to 6 - 8 potential candidates. Interviews will begin in March with a July 1, 2014 start date goal.
    • Shirley Lefever-Davis was named interim dean of the College of Education effective June 9, according to Keith Pickus, interim provost at Wichita State University. Lefever-Davis will be interim dean for the 2013-2014 academic year while a national search is conducted for a permanent dean.Sharon Iorio stepped down as dean in June to begin a phased-in retirement over the next year or two.
  • Fairmount College of Liberal Arts & Sciences: Ron Matson has agreed to serve for three years as interim dean. The coming academic year will be his second year. A dean’s search will begin next year. Bill Bischoff stepped down as dean in June 2012 to return to the faculty.
