C. Howard Wilkins Sr. Women’s Basketball Scholarship

C. Howard Wilkins Sr. graduated from Yale University in 1929. Working as a stockbroker, he moved to Wichita in 1937 and joined the brokerage firm of Harris, Upham & Company. He later accepted a position at Prudential Bache, now known as Prudential Securities, and remained there beyond his 90th birthday as vice president of investments. His youngest son, Robert, also worked for Prudential as a stockbroker.

Although Mr. Wilkins and his three children were all graduates of Yale, the family has sustained a deep appreciation and affection for Wichita State University. Notably, Mr. Wilkins organized and was the lead donor for the C. Howard Wilkins Sr. Softball Stadium. Additionally, he generously supported the WSU rowing crew, various scholarships, memorial funds and other areas including the Elliot School of Communication. He served as an emeritus member of the past Endowment Association’s board of governors and was seated on the National Advisory Committee until 1999.

Honoring the ties between WSU and the Wilkins family, Mr. Wilkins’ three children, C. Howard Wilkins Jr., Robert Wilkins and Jane Gifford, created two scholarships in his name. The announcement of these scholarships during his 86th birthday came as a delightful surprise.
