J.A. and Mildred Wood Endowed Scholarship
In 1991, Mildred Wood found herself immersed in civic causes, not wanting to ‘sit and do nothing’ after the death of her husband, Jack ‘J.A.’ Wood, co-founder of the McGinty Company. A volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army Women’s Society, she noticed the ‘Campaign for Students’ billboard located north of Cessna Stadium on 21st Street and thought, ‘I could help.’ In 1994, she established the J.A. and Mildred Wood Endowed Scholarship in memory of her late husband. Although Mrs. Wood passed away in 1997, her commitment to assisting others continues through her scholarship.
