Spirit of the Gift

Spirit of the Gift Biography Project

Project History

It is the WSU Foundation's hope that the Spirit of the Gift project will further strengthen the bonds between donors and the recipients of academic support.

Scholarships, fellowships and non-scholarship funds are more than just dollars and cents; they are a way for donors to share their personal beliefs, characteristics and aspirations with students, faculty and staff, and they are a way to give back to the university that gave so much to them.

Biographies of donors and scholarship, fellowship and non-scholarship namesakes are alphabetically catalogued in the following pages and may include information about:

  • the donor's or namesake's relationship to WSU,
  • career history of the donor or namesake,
  • why the scholarship/fellowship/non-scholarship is so named and
  • the motivation for the gift.

This project--initiated by President Donald Beggs in 2005--is continually a work in progress as funds begin paying out each semester. Included are the donor-consented biographies associated with endowed scholarships ($10,000+ and $15,000+ as of July 1, 2007), endowed fellowships ($25,000+), endowed faculty fellowships ($150,000+) and non-scholarships.
