Dr. William Groutas is one of WSU’s most respected researchers and innovators. He also teaches and mentors students – thousands of them since joining WSU in 1980. A native of Cyprus, Dr. Groutas is internationally known for his research combating such diseases as West Nile virus, Dengue virus, norovirus and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. “Dr. Groutas is very influential in his field and I knew I wanted to work with him because of his achievements in medicinal chemistry,” says Chamandi Gamachchige, graduate assistant from Sri Lanka.

student scholarships

Karissa Gilchrist is just one example of a WSU student who needed help affording college and got it through scholarships. When combined, her scholarships covered her tuition and fees in full. She graduated in 2013 and went on to earn her medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. Dr. Gilchrist is in her second year of residency at Ascension Via Christi. “My scholarships gave me the freedom to focus on my classes and experience college fully, including opportunities for leadership, volunteering, shadowing health care professionals – the things you need to be a serious candidate for med school.”

Your support will help students achieve their dreams.
