Abercrombie Employee Scholars Endowed Fund
Albert Abercrombie founded A.L. Abercrombie Inc. in 1962. A successful, independent oil man, he was ever mindful of his humble beginnings when, as a teen, his first job cleaning out the barn and bunkhouse of the oil field teamsters paid 25 cents a day. His career spanned more than 60 years and at one time included three Wichita oil-based businesses. He and his wife, Middy, regarded their employees as extended family and established the Abercrombie Employee Scholars Endowed Fund. This fund was created to benefit the descendants of Abercrombie employees: ‘There is no greater thrill than doing something for your fellow man.’ Mr. and Mrs. Abercrombie were recipients of the Fairmount Society Lifetime Achievement Award and the Fairmount Founder’s Award. Both were life members of the Alumni Association.
