Airbus North American Engineering Inc. Aerospace Engineering Scholarship
In 1970, Airbus was established as a European consortium of French, German and later, U.K. and Spanish companies. Airbus became a single integrated company in 2001 and in June 2002, Airbus North American Engineering opened its first engineering and design facility in the United States in Wichita. About one-third of the Wichita-based divisions engineers are graduates of Wichita State University. As a way of maintaining highly skilled local talent, the company established the Airbus North American Engineering Inc. Aerospace Engineering Scholarship. William Greer, Airbus vice president for engineering at the time, commented, ‘We wanted to assist Wichita State in its tradition of attracting the brightest students to its engineering program.’ Airbus hopes that this scholarship will permit students to allocate more time to studying and less to work, enabling them to participate in research projects and other constructive extracurricular activities.
