Esther Perry was originally from Chanute, Kansas, where she attended the Chanute Business College before moving to Wichita. An independent and well-read businesswoman, late in life she married Albert Perry, controller and secretary for the Coleman Company. Together they raised Standard Poodles for show. Mrs. Perry placed a high value on education, even taking several classes at Wichita University. She also assisted her nieces and nephews financially while they attended WSU. In 2001, through her estate, the Alfred S. and Esther U. Perry Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Business Management was established. Her investment in the future of the university and its students arose from her belief in the benefit of education.
