Ann H. and Justus H. Fugate SAS Endowed Scholarship
Ann Aldrich graduated from Oklahoma University in 1959 with a B.A. in Fashion Arts. Later that year, Ann and Justus Fugate were married. Mr. Fugate obtained his B.A. (1960) and M.A. (1962) in mathematics from the University of Wichita.
Following their college days, the Fugates remained very active within the university and the Wichita community. During 1967, Mr. Fugate helped develop the first computing center at Wichita State University. As a member of the Junior League of Wichita, Mrs. Fugate worked to establish a Wichita Chapter of Planned Parenthood, where she served three terms as its founding president.
In 1997, Mr. Fugate was instrumental in attaining new equipment for the Endowment Association’s annual fund telephone campaign. The following year, Mrs. Fugate was honored in the Wichita State Plaza of Heroines’ for the lovely spirit that shines through to everyone whose life she touched. She also was selected for the Daniel Caliendo Jr. ‘Life Worth Living Award’ for setting an exceptional model for the disabled community. Mrs. Fugate passed away in 2003 (See

Mr. Fugate was a director on the WSU Foundation Board and a member of the Foundation’s National Advisory Council. He served on numerous committees, was a member of the Society of 1895 and a life member of the President’s Club and Alumni Association. On May 12th, 2009, Mr. Fugate was pleased to be named the second honorary ambassador of the Wichita State University’s Student Ambassador Society. Mr. Fugate died in 2020.
