Anthony and Dana Gythiel Endowed Scholarship / Fellowship fund in History
Anthony P. Gythiel became a faculty member of Wichita State University’s English Department in 1971. In 1992, he joined the Department of History. Professor Gythiel’ s translations of books dealing with historical theology and the spirituality of the early Christian East have garnered him an international reputation. Professor Gythiel’s courses on Medieval History, the Renaissance, the Reformation and Early Christianity were beloved by generations of WSU students. Over the years, Professor Gythiel received three Teaching Awards: in 1976, 1992, and 1993. Tony and Dana established this scholarship in 2005 to help qualified students obtain their history degree. The scholarship is at the same time a token of gratitude to the United States of America, a country that provided a future for Professor Gythiel when he came here as an immigrant in 1963.
