Woolsey Family Support Fund for Petroleum Geology

Wayne and Kay Woolsey of Wichita built an extremely successful oil and gas business and consolidated their holdings under the name of Woolsey Companies. Wayne received his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of North Texas and his master’s degree in geology from Texas A&M. After starting a career as a geologist, he moved to Wichita in 1968 and began drilling and operating wells in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Kay joined the company in 1986, serving as vice president and secretary. Wayne was inducted into two oil and gas Halls of Fame, the Kansas Oil and Gas Museum Foundation in 2011 and the Kansas Oil Museum in 2015. In 2018, Wayne Woolsey received an honorary doctorate from Wichita State in honor of the many contributions he has made to this industry. This fund supports the advancement of the study of petroleum geology at Wichita State.
