Stephanie McCart Memorial Golf Tournament — fifth year to help support education students

Note: Due to ground conditions the tournament has been rescheduled to October 5 and the tee time will begin at 9 a.m.

Stephanie McCart
The Stephanie McCart Memorial Teaching Scholarship is enhanced by an annual golf tournament in her name.

Family, friends and the general public are invited to gather on a summer Kansas morning to play golf. But for many, the birdies, the raffle and the T-shirts are far from the reason they are there. They participate to honor Stephanie McCart and further the mission of the Stephanie McCart Memorial Teaching Scholarship – to provide WSU students the opportunity to begin their teaching careers and positively affect children for generations to come.

“So far, we have been able to help eight students get closer to their dreams of becoming teachers,” said Cheryl McCart, Stephanie’s mother. “Think of the number of children they will positively impact over the years.”

Stephanie McCart, a WSU College of Education senior, was 22 when she died on March 14, 2009, in a car accident. The McCart family established the scholarship in her memory and also is hosting the golf tournament for its fifth year.

“So far, we have been able to help eight students get closer to their dreams of becoming teachers.”

- Cheryl McCart, mother of Stephanie McCart

The event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at Wedgewood Golf Course in Halstead. The 18-hole, four-person scramble costs $160 per four-member team, which includes lunch and two carts. Prizes will be awarded and other contests will be held throughout the day. All tournament proceeds will go to the scholarship. Sponsorships are available at multiple levels.

To become a sponsor, register to play or for questions, contact Cheryl McCart at 302 W. 2nd, Halstead, 316-835-2495 or cmccart@cox.net. Registrations are welcome till tee-time.
