First time — President’s Club Dinner combines with Inauguration Dinner of a WSU president

New Life Members of the President’s Club and WSU alumni, Denis and Shirley Dieker (left and second from the right) are congratulated by WSU President John Bardo and Elizabeth King, WSU Foundation president and CEO. Denis is CFO of Midwest Drywall Co. Inc. and Shirley is the director of IT for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County.

More than 400 well-wishers from seven states filled the Preferred Health Systems Multipurpose Gym in Charles Koch Arena for a dinner on Oct. 11 sponsored by the WSU Foundation. The event celebrated the inauguration of Dr. John Bardo as the 13th president of Wichita State University and recognized 23 donors to WSU who have achieved the giving level of President’s Club Life Member. These dedicated friends have donated at least $100,000 during their lifetimes.

Ron Matson, interim dean of the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, shared stories about Deborah and John Bardo during their first experiences at Wichita State — he as an assistant professor of sociology and she as a grad student working in Neff Hall. Congratulatory comments were made by Sen. Pat Roberts and Congressman Mike Pompeo.

Following, Bill Moore, chair of the WSU Foundation Board of Directors, Elizabeth King, president and CEO of the WSU Foundation, and Bardo honored the new Life Members of the President’s Club.
