Have staff members from the WSU Foundation been to your city? The Foundation recently has teamed with other university departments and alumni to host events across the United States. They may be in your area next.

Staff from the university, the WSU Foundation, athletics and the WSU Alumni Association has been busy driving and flying cross-country bringing Shockers together. WSU President John Bardo had the opportunity to meet many faithful Shocker supporters on several of these trips. Some gatherings are for graduates of certain majors, some are for basketball fans and many are for donors in specific geographical areas.

“The common thread running through all events is the love attendees have for Wichita State,” said Elizabeth King, president and CEO of the WSU Foundation.

“The loyalty these Shockers have is so evident when you listen to them talk about their memories of campus, how a particular faculty member made an impact on their future or their level of excitement when attending basketball games.”

Trips for the remainder of the 2014 fiscal year are being planned so watch your mailboxes for invitations to events in your area. We look forward to visiting with you!

Quotes from our previous hosts:

“Jack and I had offered to host events for WSU hoping to help graduates learn about what is happening at their institution and to answer any questions about programs, etc. My intent was not to have it focused on fundraising but let guests become acquainted with someone on the foundation staff so he could be contacted if they so desired.”

- JoAnne Skillet ’61, ’65

“As a former public school educator, I have become increasingly concerned about the growing number of young teachers entering the career of education with outstanding college debt. My goal was and is to share this concern with retired educators and ask for their consideration of current and future gifts to provide scholarships for future educators."

- Trudy Swint ’76, ’88

“We have a substantial number of alumni in D.C. and I hoped that this would be a way of getting them together, having a good time and promoting connections with WSU. I also hope that we can build the attendance at future events.”

- The Honorable Scott W. Stucky ’70
