A reception on Nov. 25 to dedicate the Westar Energy Lab in Wallace Hall drew about 70 people for comments, demonstrations, refreshments and a ribbon-cutting. Among those attending were Westar Energy employees, faculty and staff from Wichita State University, representatives of the WSU Foundation and members of the news media. WSU Foundation President and CEO Elizabeth King emceed the event, praising the partnership between Westar and Wichita State that will give electrical engineering students hands-on experience with equipment relevant to the power industry. Speakers also included Kelly Harrison, Westar vice president of transmission; Royce Bowden, dean of the WSU College of Engineering; and Ward Jewell, professor of electrical engineering. Westar President Mark Ruelle was among those attending. The facility was named the Westar Energy Lab to recognize the utility’s pledge of $125,000 to support the lab over a five-year period.
