Society of 1895 Celebration honors planners of WSU’s future

Society of 1895

Legacy” was a recurring theme throughout this year’s annual Society of 1895 Celebration on April 12 at the Marcus Welcome Center. Legacy was discussed in terms of a heritage or tradition as well as a type of gift to the university. The event honored 23 new members to the giving club, 13 of whom were in attendance.

Mike Lamb, WSU Foundation vice president for planned giving, welcomed about 150 guests and talked about how their gifts will honor the legacy of Fairmount College — a commitment to provide an education for all who seek it.

WSU President John Bardo spoke of building on the legacy of our founders by moving forward and continuing to make a difference in the lives of today’s Shockers and those yet to come. He elaborated on the future of WSU by sharing an innovation campus update, including a report on structural items: buildings, streets, parking, walkways and landscape, and how they will impact the live, learn, work and play aspects of the lives of our students and community partners.

“To have us in your estate plans is the ultimate form of recognition and affection for your alma mater …or your home university,” said Elizabeth King, WSU Foundation president and CEO.

She included a campaign update in her remarks, highlighting priorities such as scholarships, faculty support, programs and capital projects.

Entertainment was provided by WSU’s Amaranth Quartet, which also helped conclude the event by accompanying the audience as it sang the WSU Alma Mater.
