Fee will help WSU Foundation fulfill its mission to advance Wichita State

The Wichita State University Foundation is proud to partner with its many donors to keep WSU on the cutting edge of educational opportunities.

As the state of Kansas grapples with budget challenges, state appropriations to higher education continue to shrink. The WSU Foundation has been called upon to increase private contributions to help offset this loss. In addition, there are costs associated with conducting the Foundation’s business, such as gift processing, record-keeping and audits.

Effective July 1, 2015, the WSU Foundation Board of Directors implemented a one-time Foundation fee of 5 percent on incoming gifts to support the Foundation’s essential work in helping the university grow. As an example, the 5 percent Foundation fee on a $1,000 gift translates to $50. This means that $950 goes to the purpose designated by the donor and $50 goes to the Foundation’s overall operating costs. Very little of a donor’s gift is used to support the Foundation itself.

Fees such as this are common with universities and nonprofit organizations across the country to support fundamental operations. The Foundation fee does not impact tax deductions and it does not apply to payments on pledges established before July 1, 2015.
