The campaign to raise private funds to build a new home for the W. Frank Barton School of Business is nearing the $10 million mark, thanks to a significant gift pledge from an anonymous donor.

The pledge is the largest committed to date for the $56 million project, half of which will be raised through donations. Wichita State will cover the remaining $28 million.

One of the key reasons the donor wants to support the new facility is a belief that it is essential to educating and preparing students to be tomorrow’s business leaders and work force members.

“The Barton School prides itself on developing career-ready graduates but, in order to respond to today’s business environment, it needs a facility that reflects that environment,” the donor said.

“We want WSU to be able to compete with other business schools for the best and brightest students. This facility will go a long way toward making that happen.”

The pledge is an extraordinary vote of confidence in the project and in the Barton School of Business, said Elizabeth King, WSU Foundation president and CEO.

“We are tremendously grateful for the trust these donors are placing in us,” she said. “This gift is significant not only because of its size but also because it helps us raise excitement and visibility for a very worthwhile project that will require the support of many.”
