The WSU Foundation staff participated in volunteer events this summer both on and off campus.

As a community volunteer project, staff members spent Aug. 6 helping the Salvation Army distribute free school backpacks and supplies to economically disadvantaged children of Sedgwick County. More than 350 families were served that day, the first of four distribution days.

Almost the entire Foundation staff participated. They handled a variety of duties, from playing with young children while their parents waited to be helped, to stuffing colorful backpacks with supplies, to processing paperwork and interviewing families.

Staff members also volunteered on Aug. 26 with a variety of tasks associated with Convocation, the annual pep rally to kick off a new school year. They directed students and visitors to seats in Koch Arena, distributed free T-shirts and passed out free pizza and soft drinks.
