A LIFETIME OF SERVICE
The Board of Trustees award was established in 1989 to recognize those who strengthen the partnership between the university and community. This year’s award recipient is Tom Winters, who spent 12 years serving on the Board of Trustees at WSU. Winters has also served on the Sedgwick County Commission and a number of other boards, and has a legacy of improving community processes and building consensus on long-term projects.
Winters has been a true activist for helping grow the city of Wichita, and he truly understood the central role Wichita State played in making that happen. He was instrumental in bringing the National Center for Aviation Training and the National Institute for Aviation Research to Wichita, and he has left a lasting impact on the entire community.
“I’m honored and pleased that they chose to select me to receive the award this year,” he said. “There have been many previous recipients who I was proud to work with, and I think the accomplishments of the board have been pretty outstanding.”
