With the help of donor-supported scholarships, Sarah overcame adversity to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. The Diane Caton and Loyce Baker Memorial Scholarship gave her the financial support needed to focus on her education, her family and her future.

Bayle: Global Academic Pursuits

Bayle Sandy, a Wichita State University student, broadened her global perspective by attending the University of Edinburgh’s ScotMUN conference in Scotland. Representing a foreign nation in debates on the fashion industry’s environmental impact, Sandy earned the “Outstanding Delegate” award. The Cohen Enhancement Scholarship, established by Dorothy and Bill Cohen, provided the necessary funding, enabling Sandy’s first international trip and enriching her academic journey.

Nicolás : From Columbia, to WSU Engineering

Nicolás Perilla Rivera, an aerospace engineering student from Colombia, turned his dream of becoming an astronaut into a reality thanks to the Shocker Pride Scholarship. Financial challenges almost derailed his journey, but this scholarship provided crucial support, along with networking and mentorship opportunities. Now, Rivera aims to graduate in 2026 and start a private aircraft business, hoping to give back to the community that helped him succeed.
