Meritrust Credit Union is invested in student success

With a company mission to improve the lives of members and the communities it serves, Meritrust Credit Union is deeply committed to creating opportunities in the greater Wichita area. To advance that mission, they’ve pledged $200,000 to support the Shocker Success Center at Wichita State University.

“We really recognize and appreciate the talent WSU is able to provide,” said Moji Rosson, director of Growth Strategies at Meritrust. “Educational institutions are the bedrock of any strong community, and we want to do everything we can to help set WSU’s programs apart.”

Construction on the Shocker Success Center is expected to begin by the end of the year, transforming the now-vacant Clinton Hall into a warm and welcoming home to WSU’s student services. When complete, the $18.5 million renovated building will house 17 student services, which are currently spread across the campus.

A former Shocker student herself, Rosson remembers the challenges she faced in taking advantage of student services, whether it was knowing what was available or being able to find where the service was located.

“We saw an opportunity to make a huge difference in people’s lives and in retention for the university, so it just made sense to support this project,” she said.

The services moving to the center will include disability support, adult learning, testing and tutoring services, the Career Closet and the Shocker Locker. Resources like these help students stay engaged, overcome barriers and meet their goals, providing a smoother path toward graduation and beginning their careers.

“The Wichita business community relies on the talent WSU is able to offer in order for us to innovate and move into a stronger future,” said James Nastars, CEO of Meritrust. “Having a relationship with Wichita State not only helps us create opportunities for students, but it helps us retain local talent for our business to thrive.”

Meritrust’s support of the Shocker Success Center is a continuation of its commitment to student success at Wichita State. The company supports the Professional Edge program in the Barton School of Business, which helps students develop professional skills needed in the workplace. Nastars is also a member of the Barton School’s Dean’s Advisory Board, serving among other industry executives to advance the mission and priorities of the business school.
