Shocker Post
Congratulations on a vibrant and well-executed issue of The Shocker. I thoroughly enjoyed reading every page — especially Dr. Rhatigan’s Coda essay “Importance of Small Wins.”

My wife, Vandana ’94, and I read The Shocker magazine with a lot of love in our hearts and wanted to let you know that we loved this Spring/Summer 2023 issue. It is very well done and contains many wonderful and inspiring stories. It literally brought us back to the campus.

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed reading the latest issue of The Shocker. I look forward to it every time it arrives.

With regard to the comment made on Page 4 (Shocker Post, Spring/Summer 2023) by Brad Awe ’65 related to the restaurant just a couple of doors south of KMUW, I am pretty certain that was The Grinder Man. When it had to move some years later, it moved to Pawnee, just east of Broadway, and is still at that location.

Editor’s note:
You’re right, John Davis. Until December 1977, The Grinder Man sandwich shop stood adjacent to the Pied Piper bookstore at 1749 N. Fairmount, just south of 17th Street. Both businesses, which had been in operation at their near-campus locations since the 1960s, relocated to new sites after the properties were sold in 1977. The Grinder Man moved to 510 E. Pawnee, where it continues to offer its one-of-a-kind sandwiches.
