WSU School of Education professor writes superhero book for educators

Daniel Bergman

Daniel Bergman has a super power: it’s teaching teachers, and he shares his insights about the subject is the newly released book, Teaching is for Superheroes!, published by Jossey-Bass/Wiley.

Bergman, who came to Wichita State in 2007, is a professor and science education program chair in the School of Education with Wichita State’s College of Applied Studies. He wrote Teaching is for Supeheroes!, he says, for “new, veteran and future teachers.” Using superhero examples and analogies to provide both inspiration and classroom application, the book has a fun, comic-book-inspired layout and shares practical action steps for generating enthusiasm in the classroom for K-12 teachers.

Bergman, who has over 60 publications in scholarly and professional journals and has given nearly a 100 educational presentations at conventions, workshops and conferences, previously taught middle and high school science in Nebraska and Iowa. At Wichita State, he works with students and teachers from kindergarten to graduate school and every grade in between. His research interests center on the role of popular culture in science and teacher education — including superhero archetypes and analogies.
