In 1981, inspired by the accomplishments of their two sons, Steve and Brian Anderson, walk-on student athletes for the WSU football team, Robert and Darlene Anderson established the Anderson Walk-on Scholarship. Steve Anderson, a WSU graduate with a bachelor’s in biological sciences, a master’s in education administration and an executive master’s in business administration, was the starting center during the 1973-74 football season. Brian Anderson, a graduate of WSU with a degree in education, was a starting linebacker from 1976-1979. He earned Missouri Valley Defensive Player of the Year and honorable mention All-American in 1978, and was the Chevrolet Defensive Player of the Game in an ABC regionally televised game between WSU and Tulsa. Originally intended as a football scholarship, the fund currently supports student athlete baseball players as the football program disbanded in 1986.
