Beech Employees Club Scholarship
In 1972, a unique scholarship was developed by employees of Beech Aircraft Corporation and its president, Frank E. Hedrick. Each year, a golf tournament was held in four cities where Beech had plant operations, Wichita, Salina, Liberal and Boulder, Colo. Each employee that participated in the tournament contributed $1.50, which Mr. Hedrick matched. It was called the I Beat Hedrick golf tournament because in 22 years only 244 out of nearly 2,000 participating employees had succeeded in beating the boss.
Mr. Hedrick was a life member of the President s Club and an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Psi.
The Beech Employees Club Scholarship is awarded to a student athlete participating in the golf program.
