Betty Elliott Endowed Scholarship
Oliver Elliott and Betty Thomas married in 1943. Mr. Elliot was a graduate of Wichita University in 1942 with a degree in economics and an extensive background in journalism. A successful businessman, he would become president and CEO of National-Spencer, a manufacturing and sales company. He credited his success to his experience in journalism.
In 1988, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott helped to establish the Elliott School of Communication with a significant contribution to WSU, at the time the second largest gift in university history. Mrs. Elliott served on the board of the Wichita Radio Reading Service at KMUW, the university public radio station and was involved with Music Theatre of Wichita and Rotary Ann’s. In honor of her dedicated service, Mr. Elliott created the Betty Elliott Endowed Scholarship in 1989. After Mr. Elliott’s passing in 1996, Mrs. Elliott honored her husband’s memory with continued support of the university until her passing in 2005.
