Beverly and Daniel Carney Scholarship in Entrepreneurship

Mrs. Beverly Carney was born in Wichita on June 26, 1933 to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Singleton. She attended Wichita Public Schools and graduated from East High in 1951. She attended the University of Wichita and was a member of Pi Kappa Psi Sorority. It was at WU that she met her future husband, Mr. Daniel Carney. They made their home in Wichita and raised six children. Mrs. Carney was an avid gardener, a gifted decorator and an animated storyteller. She also loved tennis and golf and had many near and dear friends. She died in 1998.

Mr. Daniel Carney earned his bachelor’s in economics from the University of Wichita in 1953. While working on his master s, he and younger brother, Mr. Frank Carney, founded the first pizzeria in Wichita, Pizza Hut. President of Gaelic Management, Mr. Carney s legacy is forever linked with one of the world s largest and most successful pizzeria franchises. In 1984, the original Pizza Hut was relocated to the WSU campus as a symbol of the entrepreneurship spirit.

The Beverly and Daniel Carney Scholarship in Entrepreneurship is awarded to an entrepreneurship major in the W. Frank Barton School of Business. The award is made without regard to financial need and on recommendation of the dean.
