Beverly Coldsnow Hutton Music Education

Beverly Coldsnow Hutton grew up in Wichita, attended East High School and received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Wichita in 1949 and Master of Music Education from Wichita State University in 1975. Music was always a part of her life; her mother played piano and inspired her to do the same. As she progressed, she studied at WSU with Adrian Pulliot and Gordon B. Terwilliger. Mrs. Hutton was involved in numerous music organizations, including Mu Phi Epsilon, in which she has been active for 60 years. In Mu Phi Epsilon, she was the District Director of the West Central Province for six years and was honored as the District Director of the Year. Mrs. Hutton also taught music in the Derby School system for 16 years, being honored in 1982 with the Master Teacher Award. She served as pianist for Dawson United Methodist Church and sang in their choir, which she founded in 1955 and personally directed for 50 years. Mrs. Hutton and her husband, Ed, married in 1949 and had three children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The Beverly Coldsnow Hutton Music Education Scholarship was established by Hutton’s children in 2011 because the three felt it was important to show their mother their commitment to helping promote her love for music education. Mrs. Hutton died in 2015.
