William ‘Bill’ Moore came to WSU from Kansas City to play football, graduating with honors in 1974 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accountancy. He retired in 2011 from Westar Energy, where he was president and chief operating officer.
Mr. Moore has immersed himself in community service. He served as chair for the 2004 United Way of the Plains Campaign and the National Conference for Community and Justice 2005 ‘Walk as One.’ Mr. Moore has served on the boards of Goodwill Industries, Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, INTRUST Financial Corp. and the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce. His involvement at WSU includes the W. Frank Barton School of Business Advisory Board, Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization and the WSU Foundation National Advisory Council. In 2006, he was the recipient of the National Conference Community and Justice Brotherhood/Sisterhood Award.
Sheila ‘Shelly’ Moore, a Wichita native, attended the American Institute of Banking. She then shifted her focus to computers, implementing a software program for various Wichita oil companies. The mother of twin sons, Mrs. Moore served on the Center for Community Research and Support community advisory council and the boards for the American Cancer Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas. She has previously served on the WSU Alumni Association Board of Directors.
As supporters of the W. Frank Barton School of Business and also recognizing the importance of quality faculty and education, the Moores established the Bill and Shelly Moore Faculty Fellow in Business in 2006 as part of the ‘We are Wichita State’ campaign.
