Brian L. Anderson Football Scholarship

Robert and Darlene Anderson, longtime supporters of Wichita State University, were advocates for the return of WSU football. Their campaign to revive the program included the funding of several football scholarships. In 1999, Dr. and Mrs. Anderson established the Brian L. Anderson Football Scholarship in honor of their son, a walk-on student athlete. Brian Anderson, starting linebacker from 1976-1979, earned Missouri Valley Defensive Player of the Year and honorable mention All-American in 1978. During an ABC regionally televised game between WSU and Tulsa, he was voted Chevrolet Defensive Player of the Game. He graduated from WSU with a degree in physical education. Dr. Robert Anderson was a professor emeritus of education administration and supervision at WSU. He died in 2015. Mrs. Anderson was a nurse with the Wichita Public School District, earning her master’s in education from WSU in 1972. She died in 2014.
