Carol and Elton Holman Screenwriting Competition

Carol Holman earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education-instrumental from the University of Wichita in 1935 and 1950, respectively. She served 36 years with Wichita State University as a faculty member of the College of Fine Arts teaching music and flute for 14 and directing the audiovisual department for 22. Under her direction, the audiovisual department moved from its tiny office in the basement of Morrison Hall to the Media Resources Center. A flutist with Thurlow Lierance and the Minisa Orchestra, she also was first chair flutist for the Wichita Symphony Orchestra.

Retired from Beech Aircraft, her husband, Elton, was known for his appealing woodworking and elaborately crafted music stands, a tribute to his wife. Through their estate, the Carol and Elton Holman Screenwriting Competition was established, which is held annually and awarded by the Media Resources Department at WSU.
