Carolyn and Arthur Skaer Opera and Musical Theatre Endowed Student Support Fund

Art Skaer won several local and state voice competitions while in high school, earning him a four-year music scholarship to Oklahoma State University. While attending OSU, he won a national competition that included a scholarship to the Juilliard School of Music, which he turned down in favor of Oklahoma University College of Law. He moved to Wichita, practicing law with what would become McDonald, Tinker, Skaer, Quinn and Herrington, the firm from which he would retire in 1981. An active member of the Wichita and Kansas Bar Association, he wrote and starred in 16 musicals performed for the Wichita Bar Show.

Carolyn Skaer earned her J.D. from Oklahoma City Law School. Influential in bringing Wichita University into the Kansas Regents system, she served as a member of the WSU Endowment Association Board of Governors, the Foundation’s National Advisory Council and the ‘We are Wichita State’ campaign cabinet.

Patrons of the arts, Mr. and Mrs. Skaer established the Carolyn and Arthur Skaer Opera and Musical Theatre Endowed Student Support Fund in 1996, which benefits students in the form of a scholarship, graduate teaching assistant, graduate assistant or fellowship.
