Charles and Betty Shideler Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Health Professions

The Charles and Betty Shideler Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Health Professions was established in 1999 as one of two scholarships to honor the Shidelers. Mrs. Shideler was a native of western Kansas and moved to Wichita to attend nursing school at what was then Wichita Hospital. She met and married Charles Shideler about the same time. Through her career, she worked in a variety of nursing settings which included hospitals and in private physicians’ offices. She believed in education and the continual need for learning. The scholarship in her honor is designed to continue that tradition. Mr. and Mrs. Shideler were members of Riverside Christian Church. His son and daughter-in-law established the scholarship and are members of St. Andrews Lutheran Church. Preference for the award is given to members of those two churches.
