Charles and Betty Shideler Scholarship in Fine Arts

The Charles and Betty Shideler Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Fine Arts was established in 1999 as one of two scholarships to honor the Shidelers. Mr. Shideler was a native of Wichita, a graduate of one of the first classes at North High School, attended Wichita State University briefly and was a long-time post office employee. He loved music and played his sousaphone in several bands. He especially loved playing with the Wichita Shrine’s Hillbilly Band. He also loved singing, and he encouraged those around him to share his love of music. The scholarship, in his honor, is designed to continue that tradition. He and his wife were members of Riverside Christian Church; his son and daughter-in-law established the scholarship and are members of St. Andrews Lutheran Church. Preference for the award is given to members of those two churches.
