Janice Chambers Ramsey Scholarship/Fellowship in Vocal Music
Mrs. Ramsey graduated from Wichita State University in 1935, when it was then known as Wichita University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance. She performed as a singer with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in the late 1930s and appeared in several Broadway productions in the chorus. Later in life, Mrs. Ramsey taught vocal music in Baltimore-area schools. She died in Durham, North Carolina, in 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Ramsey, a civil engineer who worked at the national laboratories at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Through an estate gift made by Mrs. Ramsey, this scholarship was established to support students enrolled in the vocal music program in the College of Fine Arts at Wichita State University.
