The Cheese Johnson Scholarship
Mr. Lynbert ‘Cheese’ Johnson was a four-year starter for the Wichita State men’s basketball team from 1976 to 1979. He was the Missouri Valley Conference ‘Newcomer of the Year’ in 1976. In 1977 and 1979, he was a first-team All-MVC selection. He led WSU in scoring for three years and in rebounding twice. During his senior year, he averaged 22.2 points per game. Mr. Johnson even played part of one season with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and he is a Shocker Hall of Fame recipient. Mr. Johnson graduated from Wichita State University in 1979 with a degree in general studies.
The Cheese Johnson Scholarship is given to a full-time student athlete in men’s basketball, who is recommended by the head coach.
