The Daisy Stever and Lisle Stephen Congdon Memorial Scholarship

When asked what she remembered best about her college days, Daisy Congdon replied, ‘get togethers on the hill, the early years of Alpha Tau Sigma and the glorious sunsets viewed from the college.’ Mrs. Congdon earned her general studies degree from Fairmount College in 1910. She was the first president of Alpha Tau Sigma and a member of Tri Psi of Delta Gamma sorority. After receiving her Master of Education degree from the University of Chicago, she taught in both public and private schools. Most of her life was lived in Sedgwick, Kan., where she married Lisle S. Congdon, who was in the grain and seed business.

In addition to teaching, Mrs. Congdon was an active community participant. She served as president of the Athena Club of Sedgwick and state chair of literature for the Kansas Federations of Women’s clubs and Junior Federation. She was on the Four Winds Council, a Sedgwick Girl Scouts leader and was an organizer for the Sedgwick YWCA.

Before her passing, Mrs. Congdon and her daughter established the Daisy Stever Congdon Memorial Fund, now the Daisy Stever and Lisle Stephen Congdon Memorial Scholarship, following her husband’s passing.
