The David and Vivian Bernard Scholarship in Printmaking

David Bernard grew up in Illinois, and after service in World War II, used the GI Bill to earn his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa. He then joined the faculty at the University of Wichita, where he started the printmaking program in the College of Fine Arts. He taught at what became Wichita State University for 34 years, retiring in 1983 with the rank of Professor Emeritus of Studio Arts. Mr. Bernard was an accomplished artist and his work is displayed in 36 public collections around the United States. He and his wife, Vivian, retired to central Florida, where he passed away in 2006.

Prior to his passing, Mr. Bernard established the David and Vivian Bernard Scholarship in Printmaking for students with a studio art printmaking emphasis. Friends and family of Mr. Bernard have since contributed to the fund, honoring a wonderful professor and friend of WSU.
