The John V. and Margaret Alexander Glades Endowed Fairmount Fund for Faculty

While attending the University of Wichita, John V. Glades and Margaret Alexander served on the student forum. John, a member of Men’s Honor Five, was senior class president. Margaret, a senior honor woman, was a member of the campus League of Women Voters. John earned his degree in sociology in 1938, while Margaret would graduate with a general studies degree in 1939. The two would meet on a train while on a WU football booster trip.

After World War II, Mr. Glades returned to Yates Center, Kansas, founding the John V. Glades Real Estate and Insurance agency. He would serve on the Kansas State Senate from 1960-1964.

Mrs. Glades served on the Kansas Board of Regents from 1973-1983. Active in politics, she worked on behalf of Senators Nancy Landon Kassebaum and Robert Dole.

Both served as members of the WSU Alumni Association Board of Directors. In 1987, Mr. Glades established the Margaret Alexander Glades Endowed Fairmount Fund for Faculty in honor of his wife. Upon his passing in 1996, the fund was aptly renamed to include both alumni.
