Thursday Afternoon Music Club Ines Pratt Jamison Voice Scholarship

Since its creation in the early 1900s, the Saturday Afternoon Music Club has been an organization devoted to the study and performance of music. The members recognized the need for creating scholarships and, more than 50 years ago, awarded its first annual scholarship to a young bass-baritone student.

Now known as the Thursday Afternoon Music Club, the group continues to provide support, not only for students, but for the entire music community. Students receiving its scholarships perform an annual concert each spring, allowing club members a chance to view the rewards of their contributions.

The Ines Pratt Jamison Endowed Voice Scholarship is one of three Thursday Afternoon Music Club funds. As a member of the then Saturday Afternoon Music Club, Mrs. Jamison toured as part of a professional vocal trio. She was one of the first teachers of Samuel Ramey; a basso cantante singer greatly admired for his range and versatility. She taught voice at Wichita State University for 33 years and was assistant professor emeritus of voice from 1970 to 1973. This scholarship was created by the Thursday Afternoon Music Club through an estate gift from Mrs. Jamison following her passing in 2000.
