Vera M. Linn Endowed Scholarship

Miss Vera Linn received her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Wichita in 1940. She began her teaching career in a rural school north of Harper, Kan., where she taught all eight grades. Eventually, she went to Harper and taught at the fifth grade, junior high and high school levels. The American History instructor later received her master’s degree from the University of Kansas and taught social sciences at the high school level. Miss Linn retired from Chaparral, formerly Harper High School, at the end of the school year.

Miss Linn thoroughly enjoyed music and traveling. She traveled to the United Nations, Washington, D.C. and many other areas, intensifying her knowledge of study. She served on numerous committees, sponsored the Y-Teen Club, and was a Wichita University Society of 1895 member. Her master’s thesis, ‘The History of Harper County, Kansas, to 1892’ is on display at the Harper Library. Miss Linn passed away June 1992.
