WARD JEWELL EVERGY FACULTY FELLOWSHIP

Dr. Ward Jewell came to Wichita State University in 1987 to teach in the electrical engineering program. He built a reputation as a professor dedicated to his students’ success. In large part, that meant working closely with industry partners to understand their needs and ensure that students could meet those needs upon entering the job market. Among the strongest relationships he cultivated was with Evergy, Inc., and its predecessor companies. Dr. Jewell and Evergy collaborated on curriculum, research and projects that would prepare students to provide innovative solutions and strategies to meet the challenges facing the energy industry. Evergy provides energy to 1.6 million customers in Kansas and Missouri. The company’s mission is to empower a better future. Today, half the power supplied to homes and businesses by Evergy comes from emission-free sources, creating more reliable energy with less impact on the environment. Evergy is dedicated to adopting new technologies that give its customers better ways to manage their energy use. This fellowship is awarded to a faculty member in the College of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
