Wayne and Pauline Means Endowed Scholarship

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Means were raised in Hutchinson, Kan. They married in 1953 and began their lifelong teaching careers. After working in New Mexico and Nebraska, they returned to the Wichita area in the early 1960s to start work with the Wichita Public Schools. Upon obtaining advanced degrees, Mr. Means became a speech therapist for several Wichita junior high schools and Mrs. Pauline Means served as the library/media center specialist for Wichita High School South for 25 years. In addition to teaching, they both served in leadership positions in the Wichita chapter of the National Education Association. They were also heavily involved in the Sunnydale 4-H Club with their three daughters. They are fondly remembered for their love and support of all the learners in their lives.

The Wayne and Pauline Means Endowed Scholarship was established by Mrs. Monica Giovanniello in memory of her parents. Mrs. Giovanniello and her two sisters, Dr. Mila Means and Mrs. Maurine McCleskey, wanted to honor their parents’ lifelong dedication to education by assisting current female students in realizing their goals.
