William M. Glenn Endowed Scholarship

For three generations, the family of William M. Glenn has maintained a strong affinity for Wichita State University. In 1904, Mr. Glenn’s father was a member of the first football team to play under the lights at Fairmount College. Mr. Glenn himself was a graduate of Wichita University. He later returned to his alma mater as a teacher and as the Director of the Campus Activities Center. This scholarship is meant to reflect his love of the field of speech and communication.

Mr. Glenn’s wife, Almetta, also graduated from WSU with degrees in elementary education and communication disorders and sciences. Mrs. Glenn was a speech therapist for the Wichita public schools, and a volunteer at Wesley Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn’s four sons are all WSU alumni.

After Mr. Glenn’s death in 1995, Mrs. Glenn endowed memorial funds provided by friends and family to create this scholarship. Following her death in 2004, additional memorials were contributed to the fund. Since then, the Glenn family continues to provide support for the scholarship, perpetuating the legacy of their parents and their time at WSU.
