Shocker Nation has a uniquely rich heritage that dates back to 1895, the year Fairmount College welcomed its first students to our hilltop campus. Much has changed through the years, including our name: from Fairmount to the University of Wichita in 1926 to, since 1964, Wichita State. But there are certain things — like the colors sunflower yellow and black — that have always marked us as Shockers.
From Hippodrome to Shocktoberfest, our traditions make the Shocker experience one-of-a-kind and unforgettable.
